Sucks: Call it like you see it.

    Pedestal time...

Sometimes we need to call out the folks practicing around us that do lame stuff.

    Problem #1:

Punctuation and grammar. Why doesn't "the establishment" take graphic design seriously? Because graphic designers have no sense of the mechanics of language. One cannot poke fun at another if one cannot use punctuation properly.

*Note: there is an extra apostrophe in the graphic above.

    Problem 2:

    Homophobia sucks.

It isn't edgy. It isn't ironic. It isn't anything except fucking lame. Fuck this kind of thing, Bunch Design. Take potshots elsewhere.

    Hi Ian

Firstly, thank you for pointing the punctuation issue out. We recognised it was wrong, but just a moment too late. It's good to see there are people like you, keeping an eye out for the integrity of the English language.

We're sorry you felt we were being homophobic. We don't have a negative opinion of homosexuals, nor homosexuality, hence us feeling comfortable enough to create these scenarios for our non homophobic client.

However we're happy to discuss this with you.

In the postcard, surely the old fisherman appears to be the narrow minded character through choice of phrase and actions, whilst the fun loving surfers are shown in a positive light. So who are we poking fun at? The fisherman or the surfers?

Its a shame you took the card out of context. Note how your statement below sounds:
"Graphic designers have no sense of the mechanics of language".

I wonder how many graphic designers would read this and feel directly offended. And as if you're taking "potshots" at them.

However, thanks for emailing us directly to let us know about your post. Had you not done so, we wouldn't have had the chance to respond.

    Best
    Bunch.

That was more than a bit strong on my part and I was a jerk about being the punctuation police. We have all let typos slip through to press. I apologize for being so rude about that.

Without context, the image of the fisherman seems dubious, especially when used as a home page image, hence the irritation- it seems like an "edgy" request to not deal with gays for your business. Hence, my post.

so is this post resolved or should we keep it for posterity.

So, what if you changed the phrase to, "I wanted chiggers, not n***ers", and there were black people floating in the water... that would be okay? I really don't think anyone would find it, as they shouldn't.

As someone who identifies themselves as said faggot, I find this ad to be totally irresponsible and in bad taste.

Thanks Ian, for calling these people out.

'Faggots' is derogatory (unless you're referring to Mr Brains Pork Faggots) and it's pretty obvious that there weren't any homosexuals (or whatever) involved in this making of piece of marketing gumph (there's not a lot of 'design' to it, huh). There's an obvious hierarchy in the way the image has been drawn too – 'Faggots' are mostly faceless blonde nymphos only good to be shouted at by ruddy faced fishermen. It's so wrong. The woman in the pic above doesn't fare much better either. Shame!
